Equity Segment
In equity sales and trading, Mizuho Securities focused efforts on reinforcing its business foundation and aggressively developing operations. Amid growth in trading value on stock markets, the Company strove to strengthen its market making ability and provide products to customers in the context of trading and underwriting a wide range of products, including equities, convertible bonds, and stock-related futures and options transactions.
As a result of these initiatives, the institutional investor business grew substantially on a global basis, leading to an increase of 112.2% in securities trading to ?16,142.4 billion, a rise of 111.9% in stock index futures trading to ?12,904.8 billion and growth of 20.3% in stock index options trading to ?1,580.9 billion.
In stock underwriting, backed by a positive environment for issuing shares, Mizuho Securities achieved growth as a lead managing underwriter. As a result, the number of shares underwritten grew 97.7% to 36,318 thousand, and the amount of shares underwritten rose 65.5% to ?76,458 million.
As a result of the aforementioned, commission revenues in this segment amounted to ?8,455 million, an increase of 70.9% compared with the previous fiscal year.
