Information technology continues to play a major role in facilitating
the growth of knowledge management within the New Economy.
However, according to a recent Conference Board survey, only 25
percent of respondents employ a chief knowledge officer, and a mere
6 percent utilize enterprise-wide KM programs.
Significant knowledge management concerns remain. These include:
maintaining confidentiality; satisfying intellectual property requirements;
achieving the correct IT-KM balance; and the costs of additional training.
Reward and recognition programs are essential to any knowledge management
initiative. As the value placed on intellectual assets continues to grow, so too
does the need to meet the non-salary demands of knowledge workers.
