Do you have the experience of playing games in your learning of English? Do you like them? Discuss in pairs the benefits or problems of using games in the classroom. Do you have any suggestions for how to overcome the problems so that you can benefit learners by using games in teaching?

Why use games?
Games are fun and children love them . Children learn to co-operate with others and work with rules by playing games.
What are games ?
Language games are not activities mainly aimed to break the ice between students or to kill time. Byrne (1995) gave the definition to games as a form of play governed by rules. They should be enjoyed and fun. They are not just a diversion, a break from routine activities, but a way of getting the learner to use the language in the course of the game. Similarly, Jill Hadfield (1990) defined games as “an activity with rules, a goal and an element of fun.” (是一種有規則、有目標和有趣味的活動。)
