關於媒體網關市場的研究報告內容簡介:
Executive Summary
While the line between softswitching and media gateways is becoming increasingly difficult todiscern as more vendors blend their products and features into “solutions,” this Report focusesprimarily on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)-to-packet media gateway market,which, for purposes of simplicity, we refer to as “media gateways.” Additionally, within thisReport, the Yankee Group divides the media gateway market into four distinct market segments.However, the fundamental definition of a media gateway remains consistent throughout, as allmedia gateways are devices that:
? Reside in a carrier or service provider central office and comply with carrier-classrequirements, such as NEBS Level 3 compliance (enterprise gateways and voice-enabledintegrated access devices are not included in our analysis of media gateways);
? Provide a migration path from a circuit-switched telephony network to a data-centricnetwork that supports packetized voice switching;
? Can interface with the SS7 network; and
? Are open, standards-based, and can interoperate with the call control and applicationelements of partner vendors.
Since the Yankee Group’s introduction of media gateways in 1999 as carrier convergence packetswitches (CCPSs), the market has expanded to reach $777 million in 2000; and Exhibit 1illustrates continued growth in the market through 2005, at which time the Yankee Groupforecasts a $3.6 billion media gateway market. Additionally, since 1999 product developmentshave evolved to reveal distinctions in target markets and technological functionality (see Exhibit
2), thus creating four categories of media gateways:
? Low-density media gateways;
? High-density media gateways, formerly our CCPS category;
? Next-generation integrated switches; and
? ATM switch-based media gateways, which are covered in depth in the October 2001 YankeeGroup Carrier Convergence Infrastructure Report,”2001 Multiservice WAN Switch MarketAnalysis,” and will be discussed only briefly in this Report.
